Nudes, Kneehighs & Silent Sobs

So yesterday was the Outnet.com's First Birthday $1 sale...I RSVP'ed, I made it on to the exclusive list, I marked it on EVERY calendar. I mean, designer dresses and swag: Chloe, Balenciaga, Miu Miu, for ONE DOLLAR. I waited all day Thursday to see if the email revealing the top secret start time had come in...nothing. So I figured, "Okay, I can go to sleep. It'll probably come tomorrow, I'll be up for my 8am class anyways, it can't be earlier than that."

Wrong.
I got up at a reasonable 7:00 am for a Friday morning. Checked my email. IT STARTED AT FREEKING 6:45. I AM 15 MINUTES LATE! "Oh shit!No0ooo0ooooo!" I wake up everyone within a five mile radius. I click the link to the sale to see if anything is left, I mean, it's only 15 minutes right?

Wrong.
SOLD OUT. Everything. A few things without the treacherous pink "Sold Out" button on the pictures were left. Size 10. I'm a 4 on my period days. Well, a nice gift for someone? TOO BAD. PSYCH! Sold out too. "No0oo0ooo0!"

I spent a good half hour clicking desperately at the pictures of the things that could have graced my closet with their timeless beauty. I mourned over the ghosts of fashion that could have been. I sobbed silently in the shower and pouted all the way to my class. Which ended up being canceled but I was too busy checking the Outnet e-mail to notice the one from my professor. Awesome. FML.

So I spent the rest of my day looking at these pictures to make me smile

Deafening Silence...Explained

So about this week, and next...
FINALS WEEK APPROACHES!
Thus, very little time to be fashionable
I swore to myself I wouldn't start this blog until AFTER finals, yet, I love fashion so much I just couldn't keep my blabby hands from typing!
So what's to come after things settle down?

  • regular posts about interesting things (to me anyways...)
  • regular outfit posts
  • regular sharing of my vast knowledge of shopping (cause if there's one thing I know, it is how I would spend the money I don't have...yet, and how to scape by stylishly with the cash I do have)
And I know, all of these promises, but when will I step up?! Hang in there, I'm getting brushed up on my Photoshop skills and trying to figure out which friends I will trap into being my photographer :) I want this to be good, not half-assed. Until then, I leave you with this:

I am eagerly awaiting..
  • the arrival of my ASOS package
  • the Outnet.com's First Birthday!
  • the end of the spring semester
  • the day when wearing this around campus on a sunny day would be appropriate
Alas, a girl can wish.

Marie Claire in the Mailroom

Today while I was "working" in the student mail-room of my school I came across an interesting magazine cover: Jessica Simpson on the cover of Marie Claire with the captions: "No Make-Up; No Photoshop; No regrets." On the cover Jessica is definitely in a paired down face of make-up, but a face of make-up no less. I immediately thought,

"How awesome! Way to go Jess! Wait... I spy some mascara. (Squinting closer under the florescent lighting that makes my head hurt in the basement of our Rec Building) Yup, there's definitely blush too."

Jessica, I applaud your efforts to make us girls, who are constantly bombarded by an unrealistic image of the perfect women by the media, all feel better about ourselves...but you don't look bad with "no make-up" on. At least go all the way, or it's gunna feel like a pseudo-sacrifice on your part. And, even without those tiny little bits of make-up, I doubt you would look hideous anyways. Marie Claire should really try getting someone like Victoria Beckham (here) to try a day without MAC professionals and shellacked on bronzer. Or at least do Jessica Simpson really without make up (here). Then will I believe your efforts at making me feel better are sincere. Until then, please, either wear make-up or don't.

Having suffered with poor self-esteem most of my life and a subsequent eating disorder that almost destroyed my life, I am constantly on the lookout for positive role-models and true efforts at changing society's perverted view on the "normal" woman. Not only for myself to look up to, but for anyone who may need that extra bit of assurance that there ARE women out there (a ton of them) who have it right.

I will climb down off of my soapbox now, and kindly leave you with these two amazing sites and women to ponder about:

  1. Canadian Supermodel Coco Rocha of the OH SO COCO blog. I really REALLY love her uncensored point of view.
  2. Sally McGraw of Already Pretty Blog fame. What can't I say about this site? Truly if I met her I would kiss her (not in a weird way) for making a site like this. She is all kinds of awesome.

Oh p.s. I still prob will watch Jessica's The Price of Beauty on VH1 if nothing better is on that day. I give her a lot of credit for trying.

Happy Easter!

Spring Flowers Pictures, Images and Photos spring photography Pictures, Images and Photos
Some outfit-inspiring images I've been sifting through this morning....
Trying to avoid writing a paper and getting ready for the big family get-together. Sigh.
What are your plans for this lovely Easter Sunday?
Personally, I'm going to avoid work, play dress up with my spring clothes that I can finalyyy wear (I'm feeling J.Crew today) and throw some peeps in the microwave for a cheap thrill

Yup. Then back to the grind Monday...joy.

Where have you been all my life?

So today, and by today I mean when I couldn't sleep at 3 a.m., I found
karmaloop.com .
I mean, since I work in our student mail-room at school, I saw some packages from there come in, but since they were mostly to guys, I didn't think about checking it out.
Until this morning at 3 a.m.

Uhmm, where was this site all my life?!

I consider myself to be a pretty well aware online shopper, so this was unacceptable!
I made up for my ignorance by quickly (though thoughtfully) making some amazing purchases (pics above in order):

  1. Irregular Choice Diamantina Boots (my favorite)
  2. 80%20 Gathered Hidden Wedge Boots
  3. Obey Navajo ring
I think I did pretty well, got some new things to add to my collection
(aka: mass inventory of shoes, but it sounds legit when I say "collection")
What do you think?

Introducing: Jeunesse Doree

Hello all.
This is the debut post of my new blog Jeunesse Doree!
Yay.
So around December, when the weather was getting colder, grayer and bleaker and I came down with a few more seasonal illnesses than usual,
I began my search for something to make me smile again.
I rediscovered my love of fashion.
Well, I mean, I always knew it was there, I just never thought there was a community out there of people as equally obsessed as I was!
To my excitement I found a few wonderful blogs by some amazing individuals
(specifically ... love Maegan , Daddy Likey and Style Scrapbook )
& ever since, I have realized that fashion brings that extra bit of much needed joy into my life.

Sappy?
Maybe.
But everyone knows that a good shopping day can sometimes be better than a prozac.
It's just fact.

My blog will be about everything from DIY projects, my extremely valuable style critiques (ha...), hidden treasures of the world and random things that make me smile.
The start up will be slow at first, since I am still in classes until May...
but when I get everything all figured out and organized there will be regular outfit posts!
(whoa ...you can hardly wait right?)
Yeah me neither

I'll keep you posted with interesting things until then so don't worry a bit,
and PLEASE keep me on your list of blog reads (and tell some friends!)
Thanks loves!
