BLOG IS MOVING!

Hey everyone (the 7 of you at least!),
I have been in the research process for a fashion blog for quite some time now, and Jeunesse Doree was a wonderful learning experience for me while I ironed out things like niche and voice and what the hell blogging was all about!
HOWEVER, it is time for me to move on and use the knowledge of the blogosphere that I have now to bring to you:
STYLEHAZARD.com

I could not be more excited! I would like to think of this as a happy new beginning which will allow me to really publish more of my stuff while I continue to learn even more!
I would also like to think that I have come a long way from obsessively pouring over vogue and my computer screen, to throwing together JD on a whim one blustery-cold-crappy day, to where I am now. Over the course of a year I have changed SO much, and with the many events that inevitably happen in life I have adjusted and grown! I re-acquainted myself with my true love (design and fashion) and along with the blog switch, there is a major career change in order for me soon as well!

Thank you so much everyone for sticking by me on this awesome journey, and I hope that you continue on with me at STYLEHAZARD.com!
I love and appreciate you all more than you could know!

-xo Shan

PS: I will be posting updates of Style Hazard on JD for a while until everything gets ironed out and on its way! See ya there!

Multifarious Monday

So I'm starting a theme day to start off the week!
(Maybe this will keep me nice n' regular with my posting like a good glass of Metamucil)
Don't know why I felt the need to say that.
Anyways...

MULTIFARIOUS MONDAY!:
  1. Nooka Watches
Head on over to Gilt.com to check 'em out at temptingly discounted prices (the cute and colorful jelly ones are only $65! Plus, it's INVITE ONLY and if you use my link and buy something it's super nice of you :)
I've been looking for a statement watch lately and these are definitely a possibility

2. WishWishWish

This blog is run by the incredibly cute Londoner, Carrie.
She has impeccable taste, breathtaking photos and videos, lovely content and the best style.
Her blog truly emulates what I hope mine will one day look like
(after I get better at taking photos and my own domain name).
Check out her blog PLEASE. Because it is a guilty pleasure of mine that I want to share this glorious Monday!)
She is also having an awesome giveaway here

3. I'm announcing that I will be happily going to the WONDERFUL
city of New York in a couple of weeks!

I'm looking into design schools and the prospects for me if I move there (I truly consider that city the missing part of my soul). If you know of any must-see places to shop comment please! If you live there I would love to buy you a coffee
(I love to meet new people)

4. This is (Zara is) absurd. Betty is also tres chic et tres magnifique. Check her out

5. I need a new bag. Multi-purpose, large and studded (preferably). Any suggestions?

HAVE A HAPPY MONDAY!
xo Shan.

Here it goes: First Ever Outfit Post

top: Banana Republic
skirt and belt: H&M
*tights: ASOS.com
*two finger bar ring: Obey (karmaloop.com)
tiger head ring: ASOS.com
gold jaguar purse: vintage
*(clear) wedge shoes: vintage

Well, long overdue, here is my first (VERY experimental) outfit post. Before you judge pleaseeeeee: I am very awkward in front of the camera! Yikes! I started this blog in part to work on my ever-present self esteem issues. Confidence ladies! Confidence! Now if I could only find some...

*Misc. Musings: I was looking at those tights on ASOS for a longgggg time and thinking: "Hey, those are cute." and mentally picturing outfits in which to wear them. Now, mind you, this was in the more winter-y days here in New York . Being a lovvveer of anything contrast-y (see how I like to make words by adding "-y" to the ends of existing ones?), I originally imagined them under some wool shorts and many layers to add a pop of hope and spring to the usual black drab. Well, when spring came early, most of my winter-y clothes went in my off-season closet (yes, I also have multiple closets) so I had to improvise fast because the tights arrived and I needed to wear them! Also, glance at the clear-heeled wedges (subtley chanelling Prada on accident?) and my new favorite long bar ring (mentioned here) and tiger head ring!

Lets be Vague

Oh. Chanel will ruin me. Every time I think of the pure elation I would have from owning a Chanel bag I cringe and think of my future $68,000 in student loans that I need to pay back...
That's like...34 decent Chanel handbags. Oh the exorbitant price of education gives me a headache....

Though compared to a (rough estimate) $2,000+ bag, a $23 bottle of the most beautifully shaded line of nail polish seems acceptable. ***Note on the models' feet: Nouvelle Vague***

Oh Mr.Lagerfeld...Dare I Say I'm Inspired

So it's a bit of a lazy week (or weeks?)
Time has just been slipping away lately,
and with the sudden loss of a dear loved one...
dare I say I've lost track of a lot of things.
However this morning when I was checking my email for the first time in I don't know how long,
I came across the latest masterpiece by the man I'm in constant awe of.
All I can say? Oh, Karl...

anyways...
While I'm drooling over this and everything Chanel,
I'm playing with photoshop *sarcastic eye roll* and working on some DIY tutorials and my wayyyyyyy over-due outfit posts!

Birthday Wishes

Today I am officially 19! Yay!
It's the last of my teenage years, which is actually quite terrifying.
Nonetheless, I still dream like a five year old and make mile long wish lists every year on what I will spend my never ending birthday dough on (haha... that right there is one of those wishes).
I had a stupid final and work today of all days.
So, naturally, I spent the entire time I was supposed to be "working" on this little wish list.
Oh, if only...

Birthday Wishes-that-will-prob-never-happen List:
  1. Something, anything, in the awesomely haunting Miu Miu Spring 2010 prints (except the naked ladies one because wearing exposed boobs and vaj on clothing is something I will not do, even if it is Miuccia)
  2. a Mulberry Alexa tote...I would die for one...literally
  3. Something awesome and studded (like these Jeffrey Campbells)
  4. a Canon DSLR camera would realllyyyyy help my (COMING SOON as in a day or so) outfit posts
  5. an iPad (or just an ipod since I froze mine- literally- earlier this year and have been stuck with my 2G outdated nano ever since)
  6. A kitten...oh wait! This one has actually already come true! (More to come about my baby Kyan!)

Nudes, Kneehighs & Silent Sobs

So yesterday was the Outnet.com's First Birthday $1 sale...I RSVP'ed, I made it on to the exclusive list, I marked it on EVERY calendar. I mean, designer dresses and swag: Chloe, Balenciaga, Miu Miu, for ONE DOLLAR. I waited all day Thursday to see if the email revealing the top secret start time had come in...nothing. So I figured, "Okay, I can go to sleep. It'll probably come tomorrow, I'll be up for my 8am class anyways, it can't be earlier than that."

Wrong.
I got up at a reasonable 7:00 am for a Friday morning. Checked my email. IT STARTED AT FREEKING 6:45. I AM 15 MINUTES LATE! "Oh shit!No0ooo0ooooo!" I wake up everyone within a five mile radius. I click the link to the sale to see if anything is left, I mean, it's only 15 minutes right?

Wrong.
SOLD OUT. Everything. A few things without the treacherous pink "Sold Out" button on the pictures were left. Size 10. I'm a 4 on my period days. Well, a nice gift for someone? TOO BAD. PSYCH! Sold out too. "No0oo0ooo0!"

I spent a good half hour clicking desperately at the pictures of the things that could have graced my closet with their timeless beauty. I mourned over the ghosts of fashion that could have been. I sobbed silently in the shower and pouted all the way to my class. Which ended up being canceled but I was too busy checking the Outnet e-mail to notice the one from my professor. Awesome. FML.

So I spent the rest of my day looking at these pictures to make me smile

Deafening Silence...Explained

So about this week, and next...
FINALS WEEK APPROACHES!
Thus, very little time to be fashionable
I swore to myself I wouldn't start this blog until AFTER finals, yet, I love fashion so much I just couldn't keep my blabby hands from typing!
So what's to come after things settle down?

  • regular posts about interesting things (to me anyways...)
  • regular outfit posts
  • regular sharing of my vast knowledge of shopping (cause if there's one thing I know, it is how I would spend the money I don't have...yet, and how to scape by stylishly with the cash I do have)
And I know, all of these promises, but when will I step up?! Hang in there, I'm getting brushed up on my Photoshop skills and trying to figure out which friends I will trap into being my photographer :) I want this to be good, not half-assed. Until then, I leave you with this:

I am eagerly awaiting..
  • the arrival of my ASOS package
  • the Outnet.com's First Birthday!
  • the end of the spring semester
  • the day when wearing this around campus on a sunny day would be appropriate
Alas, a girl can wish.

Marie Claire in the Mailroom

Today while I was "working" in the student mail-room of my school I came across an interesting magazine cover: Jessica Simpson on the cover of Marie Claire with the captions: "No Make-Up; No Photoshop; No regrets." On the cover Jessica is definitely in a paired down face of make-up, but a face of make-up no less. I immediately thought,

"How awesome! Way to go Jess! Wait... I spy some mascara. (Squinting closer under the florescent lighting that makes my head hurt in the basement of our Rec Building) Yup, there's definitely blush too."

Jessica, I applaud your efforts to make us girls, who are constantly bombarded by an unrealistic image of the perfect women by the media, all feel better about ourselves...but you don't look bad with "no make-up" on. At least go all the way, or it's gunna feel like a pseudo-sacrifice on your part. And, even without those tiny little bits of make-up, I doubt you would look hideous anyways. Marie Claire should really try getting someone like Victoria Beckham (here) to try a day without MAC professionals and shellacked on bronzer. Or at least do Jessica Simpson really without make up (here). Then will I believe your efforts at making me feel better are sincere. Until then, please, either wear make-up or don't.

Having suffered with poor self-esteem most of my life and a subsequent eating disorder that almost destroyed my life, I am constantly on the lookout for positive role-models and true efforts at changing society's perverted view on the "normal" woman. Not only for myself to look up to, but for anyone who may need that extra bit of assurance that there ARE women out there (a ton of them) who have it right.

I will climb down off of my soapbox now, and kindly leave you with these two amazing sites and women to ponder about:

  1. Canadian Supermodel Coco Rocha of the OH SO COCO blog. I really REALLY love her uncensored point of view.
  2. Sally McGraw of Already Pretty Blog fame. What can't I say about this site? Truly if I met her I would kiss her (not in a weird way) for making a site like this. She is all kinds of awesome.
xo Shan

Oh p.s. I still prob will watch Jessica's The Price of Beauty on VH1 if nothing better is on that day. I give her a lot of credit for trying.

Happy Easter!

Spring Flowers Pictures, Images and Photos spring photography Pictures, Images and Photos
Some outfit-inspiring images I've been sifting through this morning....
Trying to avoid writing a paper and getting ready for the big family get-together. Sigh.
What are your plans for this lovely Easter Sunday?
Personally, I'm going to avoid work, play dress up with my spring clothes that I can finalyyy wear (I'm feeling J.Crew today) and throw some peeps in the microwave for a cheap thrill

Yup. Then back to the grind Monday...joy.

Where have you been all my life?

So today, and by today I mean when I couldn't sleep at 3 a.m., I found
karmaloop.com .
I mean, since I work in our student mail-room at school, I saw some packages from there come in, but since they were mostly to guys, I didn't think about checking it out.
Until this morning at 3 a.m.

Uhmm, where was this site all my life?!

I consider myself to be a pretty well aware online shopper, so this was unacceptable!
I made up for my ignorance by quickly (though thoughtfully) making some amazing purchases (pics above in order):

  1. Irregular Choice Diamantina Boots (my favorite)
  2. 80%20 Gathered Hidden Wedge Boots
  3. Obey Navajo ring
I think I did pretty well, got some new things to add to my collection
(aka: mass inventory of shoes, but it sounds legit when I say "collection")
What do you think?

Introducing: Jeunesse Doree

Hello all.
This is the debut post of my new blog Jeunesse Doree!
Yay.
So around December, when the weather was getting colder, grayer and bleaker and I came down with a few more seasonal illnesses than usual,
I began my search for something to make me smile again.
I rediscovered my love of fashion.
Well, I mean, I always knew it was there, I just never thought there was a community out there of people as equally obsessed as I was!
To my excitement I found a few wonderful blogs by some amazing individuals
(specifically ... love Maegan , Daddy Likey and Style Scrapbook )
& ever since, I have realized that fashion brings that extra bit of much needed joy into my life.

Sappy?
Maybe.
But everyone knows that a good shopping day can sometimes be better than a prozac.
It's just fact.

My blog will be about everything from DIY projects, my extremely valuable style critiques (ha...), hidden treasures of the world and random things that make me smile.
The start up will be slow at first, since I am still in classes until May...
but when I get everything all figured out and organized there will be regular outfit posts!
(whoa ...you can hardly wait right?)
Yeah me neither

I'll keep you posted with interesting things until then so don't worry a bit,
and PLEASE keep me on your list of blog reads (and tell some friends!)
Thanks loves!
